Since nothing seems to fix this bizarre and annoying homepage layout here (And, from what I've seen, only blogger blog with the problem), perhaps it's time to move. Does anyone have any opinions on Wordpress? LiveJournal? Or other free blog services? (Preferably something which will allow importing existing material from here.) Perhaps it's time to pitch the whole project altogether?
Any and all thoughts and suggestions are much appreciated -- thanks!

Blogger isn't completely inflexible. You can widen the sidebar and the middle section with the posts easily by altering the HTML.
I've noticed that the sidebar dips down to the bottom when something in it is wider than the sidebar itself. Once that is removed or fixed it helps. Maybe your new layout has a slightly wider sidebar which is why it's been working.
I tried fiddling with the HTML on the old layout (and similar ones) to no avail -- the weirdest thing is that it happened from out of nowhere (I hadn't added a thing, or even posted anything before it changed itself), and only reformatted itself on the home page -- absolutely nowhere else.
There also seems to be some bug in the preview option throughout blogger -- I repeatedly get an error message, no matter what I'm trying to look at.
Even more oddly, I'm trying out Scribe, which has a MUCH more narrow sidebar than the old one, and it seems fine. (So far.) Weird.
Oh well, maybe it was time for a change anyway.
