Something is terribly, terribly wrong. In an attempt to finish up some nearly-done projects, I picked up this perfectly simple cardigan last night, located the directions, found my place (I think), and grasped my needles, untangled the yarn, and stared blankly at the directions. They could have been in Greek, for all I understood. How could I understand the most complex of instructions from when I picked up my needles Back In The Day, and suddenly not understand some simple stripes, increases and decreases? I've been on a Knitting Hiatus, as many of you know, but this is ridiculous.
I'm on a number of medications -- could it be that they've suddenly caused an entire lack of reading comprehension? Am I just plain stupid? Why don't the needles work for me anymore? I can't tell you, Dear Reader, how frustrating this all has been. I'm speechless, so all I can say is :'(

Depending on which medications you're on, they CAN affect mental clarity, focus, and concentration. Psych meds are especially bad for that...if you think one of your meds may be causing it, google "crazymeds" and look up yours on the website. They list side effects a doc doesn't mention. I had to learn mine the hard way, giving up reading for a year and falling down flights of stairs three or four times a week.
Thanks for the tip -- I'll look into it ASAP. The odd thing is although I've been on psych meds for ages, I didn't have any trouble until a hospital stay with a mystery illness in '03 (Possibly a lithium oversdose, although the levels were still well within the normal range). I still can't read or write anything of substance, and have trouble with word-finding, and like you, have coordination problems. All tests have come back fine. It's getting old, I tell you.
Sometimes it just happens. You just need the knitting mojo back.
Let's hope it returns soon -- I'm climbing the walls!
