Since my post about social networking and my departure from facebook, I haven't heard a peep from any of my oldest real-life friends. Coincidence? Are they truly offended? Or too lazy to write anything more than a silly status update or tweet these days? One wonders.
Has anyone experienced the same thing?
It's a lousy, crummy world.

Those that are incapable of one-of-one conversations (in person, on the phone, or via email) are voyeurs/narcisstic and/or lazy. I wouldn't make an effort to contact them if they don't reciprocate. If you need a giggle on a related topic, check out the Social Media Venn Diagram t-shirt on despair.com .
If it's any consolation, I've dropped a few old friends in the past few years for similar reasons. Friendship is a two-way street, and if they can't have the decency to make an effort to return a phone call (or multiple attempts to reach them), then I'm wasting my time. I have plenty of other friends that don't act that way, and it's much better to spend time with those that make a sincere effort.
Chin up!
Different people have different requirements, I guess. I have one friend I communicate with daily, another who phones me long distance about once a year and we talk for hours. Summer interferes, also.
But it is true, each form of communication tends to overcome the previous one; I email a lot, but I rarely write a letter.
I had an old sorority sister who did nothing with email except forward me crap. I told her that if she was not going to at least ask how I was or what I was up to, to just not contact me at all-and she doesn't.
Email is a great thing, when used properly. But if all you do is send jokes, dumb videos, and virtual flowers, then it's just another way to annoy people.
I would rather not hear from people then be annoyed-I am with you on this matter.
Ugh -- the Forwarding/Mass E-Mailing People! I can't stand that!
But I can't help but to be sad that my friends apparently don't want to personally e-mail me anymore -- one day they were all daily e-mailers (real messages), then all of a sudden, nada, and no replies to my e-mails. It makes a girl question if she had any real friends to begin with.
